Loan Watch: First wins for Matete, Triantis and Mayenda

Catch up on our comprehensive loan watch as our Sunderland stars heavily feature for their respective teams over the last week...

Jay Matete (Oxford United)

Making his first start in midweek, Matete played just over an hour as Oxford United kept up their chase for the League One Play-Offs with a 4-2 win over Wigan Athletic.

Matete left the field of play with the U’s leading 2-1 in the second half as he clocked his third appearance for the club since joining on Deadline Day. Oxford now sit in sixth place in the table and travel to 15th place Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

Jack Diamond (Carlisle United)

Diamond made his second start for the rock bottom Cumbrian side at the weekend but they continue to struggle in their fight for League One survival.

The winger started in their 1-0 defeat to top-of-the-league Portsmouth and was withdrawn in the second half shortly  before the hour mark. After their clash with Burton Albion was postponed in midweek, their next battle to survive the drop comes at home against Cambridge United.

Alex Bass (AFC Wimbledon)

With Bass playing a big role in AFC Wimbledon’s push for the League Two Play-Offs this season, they were dealt a big blow with a 2-0 defeat to Accrington Stanley in midweek.

The goalkeeper started his 35th game of the season in all competitions but the result left them one point outside the top seven in tenth place. Next up for them is a home tie against Morecambe this weekend.

Nectarios Triantis and Eliezer Mayenda (Hibernian)

Sunderland’s duo tasted victory for the first time as Hibees beating Inverness Caledonian Thistle 3-1 in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup on Saturday.

Triantis started his third game for Hibs in the heart of their defence whilst Mayenda was in from the starting eleven for the first time bolstering Nick Montgomery’s side in attack.

Next up for Triantis and Mayenda is a trip to Aberdeen, now under the managerial stewardship of Neil Warnock.

Jewison Bennette (Aris Thessaloniki FC)

The weekend saw the 19-year-old Costa Rican winger start his first game for the Greek side. They could only manage a goalless draw with bottom-of-the-table Giannina and resultingly, were denied a chance to close the gap on fourth placed Olympiacos.

Bennette then missed out on Greek Cup semi-final first leg victory in midweek as Aris beating Panetolikos by a goal to nil. Aris’ next game sees them return to league action on Saturday against Atromitos.

Zak Johnson (Dundalk FC)

After completing his loan move to League of Ireland Premier Division side Dundalk FC, Johnson is in contention to make his first-team debut tomorrow evening.

Dundalk’s season kicks off against Shamrock Rovers with Johnson looking to further his development after a loan spell with Hartlepool United earlier this season where he made 11 appearances.
