Team news: Gooch to miss Shrewsbury trip

Phil Parkinson has ruled Lynden Gooch out of Saturday’s trip to Shrewsbury Town.

The American, who scored his fourth goal of the season against Tranmere Rovers, twisted his ankle 53 minutes into Tuesday’s win at the Stadium of Light.

Speaking to the media at today’s press conference, boss Parkinson provided an update on the 23-year-old’s injury, admitting while the severity isn't too bad he will miss this weekend’s away match at New Meadow.

“It’s not too serious but he will definitely be out of the weekend,” he said.

“It’s a shame because I thought Goochie did well. He got his goal and then scored again before it was disallowed.

“We were very pleased with his performance but unfortunately he twisted his ankle and he will have a spell out.

“What a fantastic option to have with Aiden (McGeady) coming back,” he continued.

“He is a key player, very creative and he definitely comes back into the thinking for the weekend.”
