Elliott Embleton was the star of the show as England began their European U19 Championship defence with a 3-2 win over Turkey in Seinajoki on Tuesday.
Paul Simpson’s side faltered early on as Guven Yalcin opened the scoring, but two assists from Embleton were converted by Japhet Tanganga and Ben Brereton, and the Young Lions led at the break.
Following the restart, the Sunderland midfielder extended England’s advantage with a wonderful 25-yard strike that left the ‘keeper rooted to the spot.
Metehan Guclu pulled one back to set up a nervy finale, but Simpson’s men closed out the game to clinch three points at the OmaSP Stadion.
Embleton and England will return to action on Friday when they take on Ukraine live on Sky Sports.
