Paddy McNair: "We had the chances"

Paddy McNair believes Sunderland’s spirited display at Elland Road on Saturday ended in a case of two points dropped rather than one gained.

The Northern Ireland international handed the Black Cats the advantage three minutes into the second 45 when he smacked home Donald Love’s inventive chip.

But while chances were aplenty for Chris Coleman’s side as they looked to secure back-to-back away league wins, Pablo Hernandez bent home a fine leveller 18 minutes from time to deal the lads a cruel blow.

Speaking to safc.com, McNair, 22, admitted while it has been nice to start the last three matches, their points return doesn’t their performance levels.

“We had chances to win the game when we went ahead,” he said.

“We were the better side but they hit us on the counter-attack to level up.

“After that we both had chances so I suppose both teams can be a bit disappointed that they didn’t win.

“We had a lot of good chances and when you look at the last three games we could’ve had nine points but we don’t.

“We have got five left but we have got to take it one game at a time. We have got Norwich City on Tuesday and we have got to get the three points.

“It has been a very frustrating 18 months for me,” he continued.

“I did my ACL and it has been frustrating watching the team because with them not doing so well it is hard because you can’t change it.”
