Marc Wilson: This is the right move for me

Marc Wilson can’t wait to get started in red and white after signing on the dotted line on Deadline Day.

The 30-year-old Irishman signed a deal until the end of the season at the Stadium of Light, joining former AFC Bournemouth team-mate Lewis Grabban.

Wilson joins the Simon Grayson’s side with a wealth of experience, having made more than 180 Premier League appearances.

A long-term spell at Stoke City makes up the bulk of his top-flight experience while stints at West Bromwich Albion and AFC Bournemouth have followed.

And now, the 25 time capped Republic of Ireland international believes the chance presented to him by Grayson provides the perfect opportunity to ignite his career once again.

“I am delighted to sign for Sunderland,” he said.

“I left my house in Manchester (on Thursday), I spoke with my wife and we made a family decision that this was the right move for me.

“This is a big club and obviously I want to get my career back on track. I see Sunderland as a great opportunity.

I know a few players at the club and they all spoke highly of the club,” he continued.

“I know a few past players who’ve been at the club as well and not one of them had a bad word to say, so that was a big positive.

“I know a lot of the boys, so it’s a good dressing room for me to come into.

“The manager gave me some good compliments to come here so I’m really excited about this challenge.”
