Moving forward: 'Williams and McManaman will improve us' - Grayson

Simon Grayson believes Deadline Day duo Jonny Williams and Callum McManaman can help sharpen up the Black Cats’ attacking claws.

Williams, who signed on a season-long loan from Crystal Palace, and McManaman, who penned a two-year-deal from West Bromwich Albion, made their debuts on Saturday, producing positive displays in a 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United.

However, the jam-packed Sky Bet Championship schedule sees Grayson’s side return to action tonight against Nottingham Forest, presenting Williams, McManaman and co with the perfect chance to issue a swift response.

And speaking at his pre-match press conference, Black Cats boss Grayson shed light on the kind of impact he wants attacking duo Williams and McManaman to have on the team.

“That is why we brought him to the football club because him and Jonny Williams, who I thought was very good on Saturday, will make us a better team,” he said.

“We have got players who want to be at this football club to make us better.

“We have got a group of players now who are learning, learning about each other and the club.”

He continued: “They will make us better without a shadow of a doubt. We will be in a better place in a few weeks, months with the group we have got.”
