Lynden Gooch has been handed his first Sky Bet Championship start as Sunderland face Cardiff City at the Stadium of Light.
The USA international started against Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday evening, and he’ll feature alongside George Honeyman and James Vaughan in the final third.
Meanwhile, Robbin Ruiter has been recalled to a starting XI that also includes Bryan Oviedo, Marc Wilson and Lee Cattermole.
Ty Browning and Lamine Kone also start against the Bluebirds, with Aiden McGeady returning to the squad via the bench.
Billy Jones, Jack Rodwell, Callum McManaman and Jonny Williams aren't included in the matchday squad.
