Two in three: Ruiter pleased with clean sheet

Robbin Ruiter heaped praise on his team-mates after Sunderland secured a valuable point at Wolves on Saturday.

The Sky Bet Championship league-leaders gave as good as they had last weekend but failed to break down Chris Coleman’s side Black Cats at Molineux.

Sunderland were at their defensive best throughout, with Ruiter untroubled until the 87th minute when he was forced to save Jota’s effort from range.

And speaking to safc.com, the Dutch stopper hailed the work his team-mates put in to help secure their second clean sheet in three matches.

“I think we played amazing, we showed great team spirit in what was a difficult game against a really good team,” he said.

“But we defended pretty well, and it was just too bad we didn’t create a chance or two to win the game.

“After the red card (to Lee Cattermole) we stuck together, and I think we can all give each other a big compliment - but we have got to build on this.

“We did it all together. You defend not only with the defenders but with the midfielders and strikers also.

“They didn’t create any big chances before the red card but afterwards they did. I am glad I could show I can do what I can do,” he continued.

“I kept the clean sheet and I am pleased with that. Saves are easy to make if our defenders play like they did.”
