View from the opposition: Carvalhal previews Hillsborough clash

Carlos Carvalhal could be without captain Glenn Loovens and Sam Hutchinson when Sheffield Wednesday host Sunderland, but former Black Cat Steven Fletcher is set to feature.

The defensive duo are both expected to miss out but the Owls skipper will undergo a late fitness test, with Fletcher back in training on Tuesday.

Carvalhal also shared his thoughts on the midweek match-up, with Sunderland striving to maintain their unbeaten start to the season, as Wednesday search for a first league win.

"Sunderland have started well and they are one of favourites to be promoted.

“We know what to expect because they're strong.”

He continued: “It's not an ideal start but we must live with the reality, solve problems and understand it's the beginning of the marathon.

“We know exactly where we are and what problems we must solve to win games.

“We will get stronger and stronger for sure.”

The Wednesday boss also provided the latest team news, revealing that former Black Cat Fletcher will be available for selection.

“Fletcher will train today [Tuesday] and could be another option for us.

“Glenn Loovens felt a very strong kick, very hard in that day and next day very difficult to walk, if the game was today he could not play for sure, but we will see tomorrow.

“Sam Hutchinson is not so serious like we expected in that moment,” he added.

“In this moment, he is not available but we believe soon he can be back to training.”
