Manager's preview: Moyes demands improvement

David Moyes has demanded improvement from Sunderland ahead of Monday’s clash with Liverpool.

The Reds travel to the Stadium of Light with the wind in their sails following victory over Manchester City on Saturday, and Jurgen Klopp’s side will be gunning for three points as they aim to crank up the pressure on leaders Chelsea.

Sunderland, meanwhile, will be desperate to make amends following a disappointing afternoon at Turf Moor which saw Burnley cruise to a 4-1 win.

And speaking ahead of Monday’s game, the Sunderland manager stated his side must do better at both ends of the pitch.

“The boys kept going when it was tough at the end – we didn’t want to concede any more goals and the game was gone for us – but the goals we did concede were dire.

“We had a couple of big chances as well to help the defenders out and we didn’t do that, so we had a really poor day.

“We have to get ready, pick ourselves up and we have to go again,” continued the Scot.

“Sometimes football gives you results when you least expect it, so we’ve got to hope it’s one of those days.

“We’re going to have to play really well to get a result against Liverpool so we’re not kidding anybody on, but I always said we have a difficult Christmas period.

“If we play like we did against Burnley we’re not going to get any joy at all.”
