Former Sunderland goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen turns 41 today.

The Denmark international won over 100 caps at international level and spent five years on Wearside, making just shy of 200 appearances between 1998 and 2003.

During his time at the Stadium of Light the Black Cats won the Championship and he was named as the North East Football Writers’ Player of the Year in 2001.

Sorensen also turned out for Aston Villa and Stoke City during a 17-year stay in English football, with his career coming to an end earlier this year at Melbourne City.

And what better way to remember the stopper than recalling his unforgettable Tyne-Wear derby penalty save!
