Around the club: A look at who our academy sides are facing this weekend

Sunderland under-23s entertain Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium this weekend (Sunday 1pm) as they look to improve on their recent form.

Craig Liddle’s Boro side have struggled recently, with no wins in their last six league games - they currently sit eighth in the Premier League 2 table.

The Black Cats have fared slightly better than their local rivals recently with one win in their last four league games.

Sunderland lost last time out as they fell to a 2-1 defeat away at Everton while Boro drew 2-2 away at Reading.

Elsewhere, our under-18s are also in action this Saturday against Manchester United U18s at Carrington, kick-off 12:30pm.

United are on a decent run of form having won their last two games against Wolves and Newcastle United and they currently sit 3rd in the table.

Sunderland lost last time out 1-0 against Derby County at the Academy of Light and they currently sit bottom of the U18 table though they are just one point away from second bottom West Brom.

Elsewhere, our U14s are playing in the Premier League International Tournament. They have been drawn in a group with Hertha Berlin, Stoke City and Aston Villa.

Our U11s are hosting the Premier League Series tournament at the Academy of Light this weekend. They’ll be facing Burnley, Blackburn Rovers and Hull City.

And finally, our U12 and U10 teams are away at Liverpool while our U9s are hosting the Merseyside club on Sunday.
