U23s: Highlights + Dickman's reaction from Old Trafford

Sunderland under-23s missed the chance to move out of the Premier League 2 relegation zone this evening as they fell to defeat at Manchester United.

After a tense opening to proceedings, United built an assured lead at the midway interval after Tahith Chong and Zak Dearnley struck.

The hosts then romped through the gears in the second 45 and swiftly put the game beyond doubt as Indy Boonen and Joe Riley added to the scoreline before the hour mark.

DICKMAN SAYS

“It was disappointing, really disappointing, especially when you look at our last league match with Everton. We went into it with the same game plan and game formation and we did well in that match. It worked well then so we stuck with it. I felt we knew the situation and the importance of the game but there were just too many individual errors. We have got to be better than what we were. We have got to make sure it doesn’t happen again. It sounds so simple and easy to do but at the end of the day when they are out there on the grass, a lot of things change and a lot of things can happen. They have got to win their one v one battles and if they are finding it tough they have got to be able to rely on their team-mates around them to help them along. We didn’t have that on Friday.”
