U18s: Atkinson eyes three more points

Mark Atkinson is raring to go ahead of his side’s final match of the season, insisting three points are on his radar.

An undefeated run of four games have seen Sunderland under-18s climb the Premier League Merits group to within two points of second place Swansea City.

With just three points left to play for, Atkinson’s side have built on the foundations of a solid defence which boasts three straight clean sheets.

And speaking to safc.com, the under-18s chief has called for one last mesmeric effort from his players as they look to end the campaign in the way they mean to start next season.

“The Lads have done really well to overcome their difficult start,” Atkinson admitted.

“We are unbeaten in four games and in that time we have kept three clean sheets which is great.

“We have spoken to the Lads about the aims and objectives we set and now we want to really end the season well.

“We have one match left and it is great that it will be played at St Mary’s because that will give the lads a great experience to play at such a fine stadium.

“We want them to enjoy it but we also want to get a result,” he continued.

“Hopefully we can continue to play like we have done in recent weeks and end the season with back-to-back wins.”
