Learning curve: Robson channels frustration

Ethan Robson was unable to hide his frustration after Sunderland under-23s surrendered a two-goal lead at home to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Black Cats made a bright start to the game at Eppleton CW and they opened the scoring early on through George Honeyman, with on-loan Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj doubling their tally before the break.

However, there was further drama before the half-time whistle as Shilow Tracey halved the deficit and changed the complexion of the game, with the Tottenham man grabbing his second nine minutes after the interval.

Speaking post-match, Robson reflected on the game in two minds.

"It was a pleasing performance but ultimately we are all disappointed that we didn't get the three points,” admitted Robson. “When you lead 2-0 in any game you want to close it out but we weren't able to do that and it was frustrating.

“We didn't pass the ball as well as we can but we need to look at some of the positives and in the end we managed to hold firm and not lose the game.”

He continued: “You can't play great football every week and sometimes the conditions are tough so you need to dig in more than maybe you usually would.

“It's another learning curve and I'm sure all the lads in the dressing room will be looking to bounce back next week.

“We've done it in the past so we'll have a good week training and I'm sure we will be ready to bounce back on Monday at Wolves.”
