On the march: Defender targets league redemption

Josh Robson is hopeful Sunderland under-23s can resume their Premier League 2 campaign with a win at Southampton on Friday.

The Black Cats exited the Checkatrade Trophy on Monday after a dramatic penalty shootout at Molineux saw Wolverhampton Wanderers triumph.

However, the defeat means the Lads can now focus their attentions on climbing the Premier League 2 table ahead of their trip to the south coast.

Andy Welsh’s side sit fifth - four points off third place Liverpool – without having really found their stride as they have won just one of their last seven league matches.

Speaking to safc.com, full-back Robson, 18, urged his team-mates to dust themselves down following Monday’s disappointment and put the wrongs right on Friday afternoon.

“We have got take the positives and hopefully we can take that into the rest of the season,” he said.

“It was a tough game but now we can focus on our league game because we have Southampton on Friday.

“We need to do the right things in training between now and then and I’m sure we will get through it.”
