Season cards: You can't put a price on loyalty

You can’t put a price on loyalty.

From Roker Park to the banks of the Wear, the word passion is synonymous with Sunderland supporters and the incredible backing they provide on Wearside and beyond.

Players, managers and staff come and go, but the red and white army is constant.

And each and every Sunderland fan, from season card holders to those watching from afar, help create the heartbeat of the club, a heartbeat that will never stop.

With an average away attendance of over 2,000, the red and white army are heard wherever they go, no matter the distance or circumstances.

And there are even several season card holders that travel great distances from overseas to attend a home matches.

As a club we have the responsibility to recognise loyalty wherever we can, and this formed the basis of 2018-19 season card structure.

All existing season card holders can enjoy a significant reduction to their renewal price and we have, at the request of fans, provided concession and family pricing in both the west and east stands.

As a club, we’ve recognised the importance engaging supporters of all ages, and in particular the next generation of Sunderland fans who will fill the terraces for decades to come.

In November 2017, a BBC poll of 1,000 18 to 24-year-olds found 82% felt ticket costs were ‘an obstacle to them going to more matches’.

And with the most expensive average adult season tickets in the Conference Premier last season priced at £297.21, it’s hardly a surprise.

Our introduction of a new age bracket for under-18s will see them pay £110 less than last season, as under-8s get their first taste of red and white wonder for free in the family stand.

Football should be accessible and affordable for everyone, and the steadfast loyalty of Sunderland fans should be rewarded.
