Loan Watch: Goalkeepers' delight as Bass and Young enjoy victories

Catch up on our comprehensive loan watch as our Sunderland stars heavily feature for their respective teams over the last week...

Jay Matete (Oxford United)

The combative midfielder was an unused substitute as Oxford United succumbed to current league leaders Portsmouth losing 2-0.

The result means they now sit three points outside the League One play-offs. Next up for them is a home game against Cheltenham Town on Saturday.

Joe Anderson (Shrewsbury Town)

The 23-year-old was back in the matchday squad for Shrewsbury Town but did not feature in their 2-0 loss against Blackpool.

Anderson has played 27 times this season and will be pursuing further game time in a bid to help the Shrews steer away from the League One relegation zone. They travel to fellow relegation-threatened Port Vale this weekend.

Jack Diamond (Carlisle United)

The winger played 79 minutes for the Cumbrians as they continue to fight for survival in the third tier.

A 3-1 loss to Reading cuts them further adrift at the bottom of the table. Next up for them is a trip to Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

Alex Bass (AFC Wimbledon)

In what was a wonderful occasion at Plough Lane on Saturday, AFC Wimbledon claimed the bragging rights in a local derby under dramatic circumstances.

Ronan Curtis 94th minute goal sparked wild scenes as Alex Bass’ clean sheet saw them win 1-0. The 25-year-old keeper has now kept the second highest amount of clean sheets in the division with 12 to his name.

It also proved to be a vital victory in their pursuit for the League Two play-offs as they sit four points off the top seven. They face Grimsby Town on Tuesday night.

Nectar Triantis and Eliezer Mayenda (Hibernian)

The Scottish outfit are on an unbeaten run of four games with the Australian defender making a contribution in each of those games.

Triantis was a second-half substitute as Hibs beat Ross County 2-0 on home soil while Mayenda was an unused substitute in the game.

A huge game awaits on Sunday late afternoon with Scottish giants Rangers coming to Edinburgh.

Matty Young (Darlington)

The 17-year-old continues to excel at Blackwell Meadows as Darlington continue their charge to National League North survival.

Starting for the fifth game in a row, Steve Watson’s side secured a 3-1 win over Banbury United to move to within a point of safety. Young’s contribution helped them to a fourth win in five games.

The goalkeeper is in contention to play again in midweek as the Quakers host Scunthorpe United on Tuesday night.

Harry Gardiner (Blyth Spartans)

The frontman featured for the tenth time this season but couldn’t help the Spartans avoid defeat as they lost 3-1 to National League North league leaders Tamworth.

Gardiner played the full 90 minutes and their next outing is a home game against Kings Lynn Town.

Zak Johnson (Dundalk FC)

The Irish outfit were due to feature on Friday evening against Bohemians but adverse weather conditions postponed the game.

Johnson, who spent the first half of the season on loan at Hartlepool United, will be looking for his first competitive minutes when they host Sligo Rovers this evening.
