Team news: Michael Beale names his side

Michael Beale has named his starting eleven for this afternoon's Sky Bet Championship fixture against Middlesbrough (12pm).

There is one change to the side following last week's 3-1 victory over Stoke City.

Leo Hjelde makes his first Sunderland start replacing Jenson Seelt.

Patrick Roberts returns to the squad following a calf injury and takes his place on the bench.

There is also a place among the substitutes for 20-year-old midfielder, Caden Kelly, following his recent impressive performances for the Under-21s.

Sunderland AFC: Patterson, Hume, O'Nein (c), Ballard, Hjelde, Neil, Ekwah, Jobe, Ba, Clarke, Burstow.

Substitutes: Bishop, Pembele, Seelt, Aouchiche, Kelly, Rusyn, Roberts, Mundle, Luis Hemir.
