Talking points: The key quotes from Mike Dodds

Mike Dodds has been speaking to the media ahead of the Black Cats' trip to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

MD on Dennis Cirkin

He is back training with the group, but we don’t want to rush him back due to how long he has been out.

The plan is to see him on the grass, but we will see how that materialises.

For the likes of Dennis and Aji, if they can get some minutes and then go into the summer knowing their bodies are in a good place, it is a huge boost psychologically.

MD on Patrick Roberts

In an ideal world, I would have a fully fit Patrick Roberts. Thankfully Chris Rigg has come in and performed really well during his injury.

Pat is focused and it is important to get him on the pitch. His ability is completely undoubted, and we know he needs to have a big summer and come back stronger and fitter.

MD on team news

The whole starting 11 from Leeds has an argument to start tomorrow. Especially out of possession on Tuesday, they did exactly what I asked.

We have done our research, we know what we need.

MD on WBA

It will be a really tough game. I have said before that I think the coach is one of the best in the league.

I think he has a talented squad that he is getting the maximum out of.

The Championship is one of the toughest leagues in the world and West Brom are another really good side.

We are not going there to draw the game, I can assure you all that.

MD on the previous two fixtures

For me, we should be sat here with two victories. There is some positivity, but I will always be genuine, I know we have four clean sheets in five, but we have to turn those into wins.

Against Bristol City, the goalkeeper was player of the match and I always thought we could have nicked it against Leeds.

MD on the travelling fans

I can’t speak highly enough of the fans. I have fallen in love with this area. They are really passionate and have every right to be, that is why we love the game.

Results may not sometimes go your way, but we work every day for those that show up week in, week out.

Every day is an opportunity for us to be better, ready for next season.
