David Moyes: Togetherness will drive us forward

David Moyes believes the feeling of togetherness between fans and players can help drive Sunderland to Premier League safety.

No game this weekend due to the Emirate’s FA Cup means the Black Cats are focusing their attentions on Burnley’s visit to Wearside in eight days’ time.

With just one match left to play in March, Moyes is determined to plot Sunderland’s route to survival believes a handful of victories in their final 11 games will provide his team with the perfect platform to do so.

The Scot also highlighted the value of closeness between his players and the supporters, insisting that will swing the pendulum in the Lads’ favour.

“Five wins is realistic and I think that is what is going to be needed for us to get out of it,” he said.

“We’ve got games coming up that are winnable and that present chances to win.

“It is a brilliant football club in terms of the infrastructure, the stadium and the support.

“The amount of supporters that come to open days and matches is great. It is a close community up here between the players and the supporters.

“There is a general feeling of closeness and I hope the supporters are part of the club because we see them being in here,” he continued.

“We don’t want to let them down and we want to do well. If we stick together, keep the group tight then we will get some results in the end.”
