Raring to go: Pickford pleased to return

Jordan Pickford is feeling upbeat despite Sunderland’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

The stopper made his Stadium of Light return against Pep Guardiola’s side, producing a solid outing – and some top saves – as the Black Cats battled hard throughout the game.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be as Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane found the net, but after returning to action in recent weeks the England international is remaining positive.

“It’s good to be back in the team,” said Pickford. “I had some rustiness in the last game but I’m feeling good again and I’ll keep working hard.

“As a unit we worked well together [against Man City]; we were quite compact and we did our jobs, but unfortunately we conceded two goals.”

He continued: “The work rate from the lads was top drawer and if JD’s shot goes in off the post it could have been a different story, but unfortunately they got the goal just before half-time which was a killer to our game plan.

“We stuck together and tried to go out and get something from the game in the second half, and we worked hard as a team so we can take positives from it.

“We’ll keep working hard as a team on and off the pitch and hopefully we can start getting the results we need.”
