View from the opposition: Dyche hails 'special' competition

Burnley will pull no punches when they travel to the Stadium of Light this weekend, with Sean Dyche targeting a place in the fourth round.

The Burnley boss reached the semi-final of the Emirates FA Cup as a player during his time with Chesterfield, and speaking at his pre-match press conference he admitted the competition still carries an emotional attachment.

David Moyes has also enjoyed success in the famous cup having guided Everton to the final in 2009 when they were narrowly beaten by Chelsea.

And Dyche is keen to emulate his opposition number, revealing his desire to go one step further than he did as a player.

“I look back on my own journey and we got close to winning it, so it can happen.

“It’s a tough journey to go all the way, but everyone goes out with the intention of that and that’s sometimes overlooked.”

He continued: “There is still an emotional attachment that comes with the cup and, for sure, if we can get a cup run, we’ll take it.

“We might well make changes, but that is not doing the cup down, and we feel we have a more rounded squad and one that can win games.

“People speak about it being a break from the norm, which I guess it is, but it’s still a Premier League club we face and we want to go and get through to the next round.

“Emotionally the FA Cup brings glory and a special feeling, while the runs are good for fans.”
