Manager's preview: Moyes expecting Burnley battle

David Moyes has paid tribute to Burnley’s team ethic ahead of Sunderland’s New Year’s Eve trip to Turf Moor.

The Black Cats are striving to end 2016 on a high but it won’t be easy against the resilient Clarets who have been almost unbeatable at home.

19 of their 20 Premier League points have come at home with Manchester City and Arsenal the only sides to take maximum points at Turf Moor.

And speaking to safc.com, Moyes praised the Clarets’ tradition and team spirit ahead of Saturday’s crunch match.

“I have played and managed there many times,” said the Scot. “Burnley have had a great tradition over the years.

“Turf Moor has never been an easy place to go and get a result, but they have had a bit of consistency in terms of not having to change their team much.”

He continued: “Burnley have come back up with near enough the same group of players – that regularity has given them a good team.

“You might not necessarily pick out loads of individuals, but you would pick out a good team.

“That makes them dangerous and more the reason why they have picked up lots of good home results this season.”
