Award: Black Cats scoop LMA prize

Sunderland have been awarded the League Managers' Association LG Performance of the Week award following their 3-0 victory over Norwich City at Carrow Road.

The five-man LMA Performance of the Week panel, compromising of LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that the Black Cats’ impressive win away from home was the standout display of the week.

Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce will receive the specially commissioned trophy – made by silversmiths and LMA partner Thomas Lyte of London – on Friday afternoon.

“The position we've left ourselves in was making me feel a bit edgy on the morning,” said Allardyce. “Will we handle the pressure? Will we cope with the pressure?

"They answered my questions. They coped with the pressure and coped with everything Norwich could throw at them. To go there and win 3-0 shows you what a massive result it was."
