Ladies looking to extend lead

by Stuart Vose

We look ahead to this weekend's National Premier League action.

Sunderland’s ladies host their Coventry City counterparts on Sunday as the Lady Black Cats look to extend their lead at the top of the FA Women’s Premier League to five points.

Mick Mulhern’s side return to league action after last Sunday’s Women’s FA Cup victory over Sporting Club Albion.

Coventry have proved to be a bogey side for the in-from ladies in recent encounters between the two.

Sunderland won 4-1 last time out but the Sky Blues took four points from the two fixtures in the last campaign.

In fact, City are one of only two teams defeat Mulhern’s side in the league in the past two years.

Coventry beat the Lady Black Cats 3-1 back in September 2011 before drawing the reverse fixture 2-2 in November.

Sunderland are in lethal form, though, and will be looking to continue their unbeaten 2012-13 campaign.
