Home fan move huge positive, says boss.
Martin O’Neill has thrown his weight behind Sunderland’s new South Stand singing end at the Stadium of Light.
The new home area made its league debut against Liverpool last weekend with the Black Cats boss blown away by the atmosphere.
“I thought it was excellent and the players felt that too,” said O’Neill.
“The ground looked great rather than there being some empty spaces where we had to make allowances for the away fans.”
Visiting supporters have moved into the upper tier of the Strongbow North Stand, leaving the whole lower bowl available for Sunderland supporters.
“Overall, it really is excellent and I think the all-round atmosphere is much better,” O’Neill added.
“It’s a great improvement and I would be interested to see the comments from the fans themselves.
“Certainly the players felt it was very good.”
