Boss sizes up home test

O'Neill speaks pre-West Brom.

Martin O’Neill says Sunderland are steeling themselves for a tough test against West Brom tomorrow.

The Black Cats face the in-form Baggies in the early kick-off at the Stadium of Light.

Steve Clarke’s side have taken 23 points from their first 12 games, while Sunderland head into the fixture following a fine away win at Fulham last time out.

“West Bromwich Albion are having a fantastic season so far,” O’Neill said. “They have had a great start.

“Some of the games that they’ve lost – at Newcastle, for example – they might consider themselves a little unlucky.

“It’s a big test for us but we have to look forward to it now because of the result against Fulham at Craven Cottage and just be ready for the game.”

Starting with Saturday’s game, Sunderland play four of their next five fixtures at the Stadium of Light.

Six of their next nine fixtures overall will take place on Wearside, taking the Black Cats up to the end of 2012.

“We should be looking forward to the games there; we haven’t played that many at home this season,” O’Neill explained.

“Now with Fulham out of the way – I tend not to look that far in advance – West Bromwich Albion present plenty of problems to us, it will not be easy and [the game against] Queens Park Rangers won't be either."
