Sunderland’s under-18 side travel to Middlesbrough on Saturday looking to make it back-to-back wins in the Barclays U18 Premier League.

The young Black Cats head into the Tees-Wear derby on the back of an impressive 4-1 win at league leaders Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

Under-18 captain Martin Smith says the game has added importance, even at youth level.

“We had a great result at Spurs and we go into the Boro game hoping to build on that,” he explained.

“The derby games always have an added spice and we’ll take confidence from the Spurs result into the game which will hopefully help us get the result.”

Saturday’s game at Rockliffe kicks off at 11am and a full report will follow on safc.com.
