'We could have had more'

Kevin Ball reflects on U21 draw.

Development squad coach Kevin Ball felt two extra points slipped away after his side drew with Manchester United last night.

The game finished goalless at Eppleton CW amidst horrendous conditions including high winds and driving rain.

Sunderland created the better chances but couldn’t find a way past Sam Johnstone in the United goal.

Ball said afterwards: “The conditions worsened in the second half, but I’m glad it rained as it made the ball move around a bit quicker.

“I think a point was a fair result as neither team really went for the jugular. We passed the ball very well, but I wanted more in the final third.

“We started very well but then the game slowed right down.

“I think we needed someone to take the game by the scruff of the neck and I wasn’t convinced that any of our forward-thinking players did that.”

He added: “There’s a tinge of disappointment from me because the lads have been smashing in training, but I just felt we had more [last night] and if we had shown it then we would have got our just rewards.

“It was a good draw but I feel we could have had more.”
