safc.com takes a trip down memory lane to find out what happened on this day in the club's history

1998 – A Danny Dichio goal gave Sunderland a 1-0 home victory over Bury taking them to the top of Division One. They stayed in this position for the remainder of the season, thus clinching promotion back to the top-flight.

1989 - Jack Colback was born, the midfielder joined Sunderland at the age of just 10 and has progressed though the ranks to play at every level for the Black Cats. 

1978 – Winger Carlos Edwards was born in Trinidad.

1973 – Sunderland beat Sporting Lisbon 2-1 at Roker Park in the European Cup Winners’ Cup second round first leg.
