Kevin Ball leaves Sunderland after making 388 appearances for the Black Cats.

1999 – Former captain Kevin Ball transferred to Fulham for £200,000 after more than nine years on Wearside.

1995 – Second-placed Sunderland emphatically replaced Millwall at the top of Division One, thrashing the Lions 6-0 at Roker Park with Craig Russell bagging four of the Black Cats’ goals. Martin Scott and Phil Gray were also on the scoresheet.

1961 – Ambrose Fogarty and Brian Clough scored hat-tricks as Sunderland easily beat Swansea Town 7-2 at Roker Park.

1893 – John Campbell scored his 100th Sunderland goal in his 99th appearance for the club as the Black Cats lost 3-2 to Blackburn Rovers at Newcastle Road. This was Sunderland’s only home defeat from September 1890 to September 1896; a period of 92 league and cup games.
