Keane takes charge and Ball makes debut.

2006 – Roy Keane was appointed Sunderland manager as he watched on from the stands in Niall Quinn’s final game in charge; a 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion.

2002 – A Jason McAteer goal gave Sunderland all the points at Elland Road in what turned out to be the Black Cats’ only win of the campaign.

1990 – Kevin Ball made his Sunderland debut in a 0-0 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at Roker Park.

1982 – Colin West, Ally McCoist and Nick Pickering scored to give the Black Cats a 3-1 win at European Cup holders Aston Villa.
