Coaches represent Premier League in Asia.
Three coaches from Sunderland AFC’s Foundation of Light have travelled to Hong Kong, alongside the SAFC first team, to deliver a groundbreaking football coaching programme to youngsters and coaches as part of the Barclays Asia Trophy.
Members of the Football Development team, Graham Robinson, Jamie Wright and Caroline Ames are in Asia as representing the Barclays Premier League and will be involved in a week-long programme of events.
The coaches will be working alongside fellow top-flight clubs to host a six-day coach development initiative for 50 grassroots and amateur China and Hong Kong based coaches.
They will also be part of a team running a six day coaching workshop for 50 youngsters aged 6-11 years.
Both sessions will culminate in a sports festival featuring players from all of the teams attending the tournament.
Foundation of Light Chief Executive Lesley Spuhler commented: “We’re very proud to be able to represent the region and the Barclays Premier League in Hong Kong through the work of our coaches.
“We’re very grateful to be asked to attend by the Premier League and I think that our team will prove themselves to be great participants of their respective programmes.”
The Foundation of Light's Football Development Department offers player pathways from in-school coaching and after-school clubs, through to Elite clubs, development centres and Sunderland AFC's Academy.
Their own ‘Coaching the Coaches’ initiative aims to grant grassroots coaches access to some of the country’s top coaching talent to help them improve their players’ skills and enjoyment of football with Senior Professional Development Coach Kevin Ball the lead guest at the next session.
The department is also involved in international delivery with programmes running in Sweden, Switzerland and Spain this year alone.
