Fans to show their colours for Wear-Tyne derby.

Sunderland supporters are set to kick off the hotly anticipated Wear-Tyne derby on Sunday by creating a sea of Red and White around the Stadium of Light.

A passionate sell-out crowd will show their support for Martin O’Neill’s side by recreating the club’s famous red and white stripes with coloured cards, which are being placed on every home supporters seat.

Fans are asked to take their seats early ahead of the 1.30pm kick-off to show their support by holding up the cards, which will greet both teams as they walk out of the tunnel.

An army of volunteers will be working over the weekend to place the cards on the seats as excitement builds around the whole of the city.

Sunderland AFC defender John O’Shea said: “When you walk out of the tunnel at the Stadium of Light the atmosphere is always electric and it will be great to see the red and white cards. We know how passionate the fans are and it will be an incredible day.”
