Case worth fighting for: Defender on Rovers trip

Dan Casey is targeting three points at Blackburn Rovers on Thursday, admitting team spirit is vital to bouncing back from Monday’s defeat.

A rain soaked Edgeley Park was the scene for a frustrating start to the week for Elliott Dickman’s development side.

Burnley’s direct approach saw them deal with the boggy conditions better as they came from behind and surged into a 5-2 lead.

Josh Maja netted his second of the afternoon from the penalty spot to reduce to arrears slightly, but it did little to brighten spirits on what was a day to forget for the under-23s.

However with no time to dwell on Monday’s defeat, Casey, 19, believes spirit within close-knit within the squad will be vital to banishing memories

“It was a hard afternoon to take because we haven’t done too bad recently,” he said.

“It was just one of those games that summed up a hard day at the office but we now need to get on with it.

“We have a good bunch of lads, we are all quite close and hopefully we can spin it round and make it make us stronger in the long run.

“We want to come first in everything we do so it’s important we forget about Monday and go to Blackburn to win.

“We played them at home and it was a tight game,” he continued.

“We are expecting similar down there but hopefully we get the result and top the group so that’ll set us up nicely for the next round.”
