On the ball: U18s to host Manchester United on Saturday

Guide to Sunderland under-18s’ Premier League match against Manchester United.

Date: Saturday 28 January 2017

Time: 12.30pm

Location: Academy of Light

Competition: U18 Premier League

Sunderland: DWWLLL

Elliott Dickman drew on the positives in his post-match interview on Wednesday night following the Black Cats’ exit from the FA Youth Cup.

While Wear-Tyne rivals Newcastle United edged a closely fought encounter, Dickman’s side were spirited in their efforts as they came from two-goals down to draw level.

However, the result has now left the youth team without a win in three matches and now, he’ll be keen to bow out of the under-18s set-up on a high.

Manchester United: WDLWD

Manchester United head to the north east looking to return to winning ways after a mix bag of form in recent weeks.

With just two wins in their previous five matches, dating back to November 2016, the Red Devils have slipped nine points away off U18 Premier League-leaders Manchester City.

The Last five...

Oct 8 2016 – Manchester United U18 1-1 Sunderland U18
Jan 16 2016 – Manchester United U18 1-2 Sunderland U18
Oct 10 2015 – Sunderland U18 3-1 Manchester United U18
Mar 3 2015 – Sunderland U18 1-0 Manchester United U18
Oct 18 2014 – Manchester United U18 0-2 Sunderland U18

Focus: Brandon Taylor

Sunderland under-18s have conceded nine goals in their previous two matches and that will cause Dickman some concern going into Saturday’s match. While a sides defensive duties start from the front, defensive duo Brandon Taylor and Alex Storey will be hopeful of tightening things up as Sunderland look to claw their way up the league.
