It's a real shame: Jones on Nelson

Hartlepool United boss Dave Jones has praised the endeavour of Andrew Nelson after admitting it’s a real shame to see the youngster pick up such a long-term injury.

Nelson joined Pools on the last day of the January transfer window as Jones added further steel to his attacking options.

However, the 19-year-old featured just four times for Hartlepool United before damaging his medial knee ligaments on Saturday against Plymouth Argyle.

Speaking to Hartlepool United’s official club website, Jones has spoken of the sadness he feels as Nelson is forced to miss what is expected to be the rest of the season.

“It’s so unfortunate for Andrew and for us,” Jones admitted.

“He’s come here looking to gain some senior experience, had done well in the games he’s played and has slotted in well with the rest of the lads.

“As is the nature of football, this will offer an opportunity for someone else to show what they can do for us and we wish Andrew all the best in his recovery.”
