U23s: Brady keen to get back on track

George Brady has hailed the importance of togetherness as Sunderland under-23s turn their focus to the Premier League Cup.

The young Black Cats have endured a barren run in recent weeks and remain winless in their last six matches.

Brady’s decisive header at Everton at the start of September is the last time the Lads have tasted victory as they have since endured defeats against Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.

While valiant draws against Cardiff City, Derby County and Reading have provided the foundations for improvements, the defender believes unity and clinical finishing are key to ending the development squad’s rut.

“We need to stick together because when you look back at last year we weren’t a technically better team but we stuck together and that’s why we finished where we did,” he said.

“We haven’t take enough shots and we haven’t taken our chances when they have come our way – in training and in games.

“We have got to be more deadly when we get in goalscoring positions because we don’t get as much possession as we have done previously.

“We haven’t been playing badly but we aren’t going to get 20 chances as we may have got last season,” he continued.

“We need to make sure we take our chances when they fall our way.”
