No time to dwell: Winger keen to keep pushing

Benji Mbunga-Kimpioka is keen to put the wrongs right and ensure Sunderland under-18s maintain their recent upturn in form.

The Black Cats secured a precious three points at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers two weeks ago but were pegged back on Friday as West Bromwich Albion fought back in the closing stages.

Elliott Dickman’s side were in firm control of the U18 Premier League fixture and led 2-0 as the game approached the final minutes, courtesy of goals from Lee Connelly and Mbunga-Kimpioka.

However, a rash challenge inside the area allowed the Baggies a route back into the match and with seconds left Jordan Piggott cashed in at the back post as he slotted home past Michael Woud.

While the result proved to be a bitter pill to swallow, the Swedish winger has told safc.com spirits need to remain high if the Black Cats are to maintain their momentum.

“It’s very frustrating for the team because we had put a lot of work into the game,” he said.

“It could’ve been our second win in the league and it would’ve been great to have made it back-to-back wins.

“It was nice to get on the scoresheet but I’m more disappointed for the team that we couldn’t see the match out.

“The most important thing was that we didn’t get beat and it’s important we now dust ourselves down and look to go again,” he continued.

“Our confidence has changed because of the win over Wolves and since then everyone has improved which is very good.”
