Joel Asoro has revealed he is taking everything in his stride following a busy opening weekend of football.
The 17-year-old featured among Sunderland’s substitutes as the Lads began their 2016-17 Premier League campaign at Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on Saturday.
While a narrow defeat at the Etihad was suffered, a day later Asoro was back on Wearside to dazzle in Andy Welsh’s development side as they opened their account with a draw against Chelsea.
The Swede’s pace and trickery caused the Blues havoc all afternoon and Asoro was on target in the second period as he pounced on a defensive mix up.
Chelsea struck back shortly after and while the visitors earned a share of the spoils, the young striker told safc.com he is enjoying every second of his football.
“I’m very pleased to get on the score-sheet because it helps with confidence,” he said.
“I hope to score more goals in the future but for now I just need to keep it up and working hard.
“It was a great experience to be with the first-team, it was a surprise but it was a great feeling to see the stadium full and hopefully it will be one of many.”
He continued: “I need to keep working hard and showing what I can do, if I do well then you never know what can happen.
“Pre-season has gone well for me and I feel great. If I compare it to last year I was a little bit slow but I know everyone now and they know how I play so I think that has helped me over the first few weeks.”
