Midfielder Vaughan ruled out

Martin O'Neill has confirmed that David Vaughan is receiving treatment on an ankle problem.

Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill says David Vaughan will be out of action for "a few weeks".

Midfielder Vaughan hurt his ankle in a challenge during the 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough and was substituted 11 minutes from time.

The Welsh international has played in each of O'Neill's 10 games in charge so far but is now unavailable with league games against Norwich and Stoke coming up this week.

Speaking on Monday afternoon, O'Neill also revealed that Wes Brown and Lee Cattermole are undergoing scans today on injuries picked up against Middlesbrough.
