Ladies facing cup semi-final

by Ashley Houghton

Big test for Sunderland WFC this weekend.

Sunderland WFC host Leeds United ladies in the semi-final of the Premier League Cup at Eppleton CW on Sunday.

Mick Mulhern’s side are the current holders of the competition having beat Sunday’s opponents in last season’s final.

And they are still yet to be beaten in the 2012-13 season, though Leeds have come closest to breaking that record, registering two draws against the Lady Black Cats this campaign.

Sunderland striker Beth Mead is flying so far this season with 24 goals and she told that this is the biggest game of the ladies season to date.

“We beat them last season; we know they’ll definitely want revenge and they’ll come at us straight away but it’s a big opportunity for both sides to prove a point,” she added.

“They know what we’re about and will set up defensively so it’s up to us to be clever in our own play.”

The game will kick-off at 2pm and all spectators are welcome.

If you can’t make the game up-to-date live goal updates will be available from the official Sunderland Women's Twitter:
