Greatest Away Days: Chelsea 0 Sunderland 3

by Stuart Vose

Another memorable away day, this time at Stamford Bridge.

Sunderland blew table-topping Chelsea out of the water to record a stunning win at Stamford Bridge in November 2010.

Nedum Onuoha, Asamoah Gyan and Danny Welbeck found the net as the Black Cats proved too hot to handle.

Steve Bruce’s side were by far the better team throughout as they recorded arguably their finest win of the 2010-11 campaign.

Chelsea hadn’t conceded a home goal all season and had kept clean sheets in their previous nine home games.

Few outsiders gave Sunderland a chance, but they started well and stunned Stamford Bridge just before half time when Onuoha slipped through the Blues’ back line to roll a low shot beyond Petr Cech.

The visitors doubled their money seven minutes after the restart as Jordan Henderson’s brilliant through ball released Gyan, whose finish beyond Cech was cool, calm and collected.

Chelsea just couldn’t get going as they laboured in midfield, with Sunderland continuing to create much the better chances.

And a day to remember was rounded off three minutes from time when Welbeck seized on Ashley Cole’s weak backpass to slot the ball into the empty net.
