Family learners celebrate achievements

Major event coming up at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland’s Stadium of Light will welcome over 2,000 Family Learners later this month as it plays host to a special graduation ceremony.

The learners have all completed special Family Learning courses with the Foundation of Light, the registered charity of Sunderland AFC.

The Foundation of Light runs a range of Family Learning programmes helping children and adults learn together, whilst promoting healthy and positive lifestyles. Delivered in Primary Schools across the North East, Family Learning is funded by Sunderland City Council FACL, South Tyneside ACL and Durham County Council, with support from Caterpillar, Cestria Community Housing, Derwentside Homes, ISOS Housing and livin.

The graduations, which take place on July 15th, are sponsored by Foundation of Light Chair of Trustees and Sunderland AFC Honorary Life President, Sir Bob Murray CBE.

The Sir Bob Murray CBE Family Learning Graduations will give families the opportunity to celebrate their achievements by taking take part in their own graduation ceremony, where they will also receive goody bags, before taking part in a mini stadium tour.

There will also be family orientated games and activities throughout the day and stalls from organisations who are involved in family and adult learning and recreation.

Speaking about the upcoming event Sir Bob Murray CBE commented: “I’m very proud to be able to give those who have taken part in the Foundation’s Family Learning programme the chance to celebrate their achievement. To undertake any type of education takes courage and it’s only right that those who have shown this courage to better themselves and their families should be honoured.”

Foundation of Light Head of Lifelong Learning Matt Hill added: “The Sir Bob Murray CBE Family Learning Graduations are one of the high points of our calendar. To see that many people together, and to know that they’ve taken the opportunity to try and improve their lives is very heartening.”
