Niall Quinn is the only person to have ever managed, played and acted as chairman of Sunderland AFC.

His love for the club has been evident since he signed back in 1996 and he went on to play a huge role in Sunderland’s rise at the turn of the millennium.

Notable moments included scoring the first goal at the Stadium of Light, bagging the winner against Newcastle United at St James’ Park and his partnership with Kevin Phillips.

Retirement in 2002 was followed by a return in 2006 to be chairman of the club and briefly manage the team until the appointment of Roy Keane.

He left the club in 2012 having oversaw a period of sustained success and with the club firmly established in the Premier League.
