Luke O’Nien joined Sunderland in the summer of 2018 and has since blossomed into one of Sunderland’s most important players.
The versatility of O’Nien has meant that he has played across the back line and in midfield, and he is known for his combative and passionate playing style.
He began his career at Watford before moving to Wycombe Wanderers, where he helped them to a promotion to League One in 2018.
His first goal for the club came against Shrewsbury Town in October 2018, and he has since gone on to surpass 200 games in a Sunderland jersey becoming a key figure in the side and in the community. He signed a new contract in 2023.
Whilst O'Nien is yet to play international football, he qualifies for Singapore as well as England, due to his maternal family heritage from the nation.
