Preview: Lasses make trip to Reading

Sunderland Women are back on the road this weekend as they travel to the Select Car Leasing Stadium to face Reading Women in the Barclays Women’s Championship (KO 12noon).

The Lasses have won both league games of 2024, beating Sheffield United 3-0 on home soil, and winning 2-0 against Blackburn on the road last weekend.

Opposition

Following relegation from the Women’s Super League last season, Reading currently sit ninth in the league.

Despite their league position, the Royals have lost just four games, winning two and drawing six.

Liam Gilbert’s side drew 2-2 last time out with Lewes at the Dripping Pan, recovering a two-goal deficit through Bethan Roberts and Charlie Wellings. Tia Primmer received a second yellow in the last minutes of the game and will be unavailable for the upcoming game.

The previous meeting between the Lasses and the hosts ended in a 3-1 victory for the Black Cats. Ellen Jones, Liz Ejupi and Katie Kitching all got on the scoresheet, with Freya Gregory scoring a consolation late in the second half.
