Lasses' PFA Community Champion: Grace McCatty picks up award

Grace McCatty has been presented with the Community Champion award by the Professional Football Association (PFA) in recognition of her ongoing support for the Foundation of Light.

The PFA Community Champion Award aims to raise awareness of the work that footballers do to help their Club’s community activities during the season.

Winning the award alongside Sunderland Men's midfielder Dan Neil, the Lasses defender has been involved in a number of events organised by SAFC’s official charity, including football festivals, events promoting grassroots women’s football, and the defender has also backed the Small Change Big Difference campaign.

Grace McCatty said: “It is an honour to be recognised for this award. Sunderland AFC means so much to people beyond what just happens on the football pitch, and sport and football can be such a powerful force for good.

“This award is about giving back and it’s an incredible honour to be recognised for that. It’s a pleasure to be able to use this platform to support our local communities and beyond.

“I consider it a privilege every day to be able to do what I do and I hope by sharing my experiences I can be an example and inspire children for the future. I look forward to continuing this and building on it next season.”
