SAFC Women x Stack Seaburn: Hundreds enjoy seafront event

Sunderland AFC Women and Sunderland RTC took to the community on Monday night, with an open training session involving all age groups along with the club’s supporters on Seaburn beach.

In the event associated with Stack Seaburn, the Lasses, RTC girls, staff and supporters then made their way to Stack to enjoy England Lionesses’ incredible 8-0 Women’s EURO 2022 win over Norway – as one of our own, Beth Mead, hit a hat-trick – as well as taking advantage of signing sessions and meet-and-greet opportunities.

A remarkable crowd turned out in Seaburn on the night, as SAFC Women Assistant Head Coach Steph Libbey oversaw numerous different training drills alongside fellow Lasses and RTC coaching staff.

Discussing the event, Libbey said: “It’s been amazing to have the chance for the players, staff and fans to connect before the season starts, and with the Women’s Euros being in England, it’s a great opportunity.

“We know there is a massive fanbase, which is great for us to be able to tap into and get everyone involved. We’re all excited for the new season, and we hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as we did.

“Starting the Under-23 side has been a major step for the club, and some of the players there have already joined in some of our sessions, so it’s looking very promising. We know there is a great conveyor belt of talent in the North East as there always has been, so to see the turnout here has been excellent moving forward.”

The success in Seaburn also ties in with the launch of Eppleton season cards for 2022-23, which enables supporters to access our Hetton venue for all SAFC Women and Under-23 matches during the upcoming season.

Eppleton season cards can be purchased here and are priced at £60 for adults, £30 for over-65s and just £10 for under-16s, covering at least 24 games across the Women and U23 sides this campaign.
